Aside from the deadly poisonous gas fumes found inside it, the Boni-Pioneer-Boni Tunnel in Mandaluyong is unsuspectingly dangerous. I'm no engineer but in all practicality I wonder why this particular tunnel in Metro Manila does not have air vents to release poisonous gases blown off of vehicles. I have two catastrophic scenarios that can possibly happen if this error is not fixed. First, what if a private or public vehicle burns without warning inside the tunnel during rush hour? Wouldn't drivers panic and trap passengers from about twenty vehicles? Wouldn't it cause stampede? Wouldn't it suffocate those passengers who may get trapped inside that tunnel? Scenario number two wouldn't be less different. It will just be an earthquake scenario and do the same thing to trapped passengers. Do we have to wait for something like this to happen? Lest anyone accuses me of cursing the tunnel - we should think twice driving to traps like this.
Paging City Engineers and Mandaluyong Mayor Benhur Abalos.
